This is the most popular of Thyagaraja's operas as the story is of captivating interest. The Naukacharitam is a creation of the composer’s own imagination. The opera is full of delightful music and beautiful poetry. Krishna has been depicted as a boy of about seven years of age. In Naukacharitam Tyagaraja displays considerable poetic gifts which include mastery over Telugu idiom and the grandeur of his poetic conception. The esoteric significance of the story lies in the unqualified surrender or abandon of the devotee to the lord in his hour of trial. This is based on Bharatanatyam style.
