Their playing sets standards, their performance creates history and their unique styles go out to become a genre, that’s why the world calls them out as ‘Legends’. And nothing can be more uplifting than an opportunity to listen to them especially when they are jamming together. This is what this stunning and unique album ‘East Meets West’ showcases - the coming together of two brilliant legendary artistes from different corners of the world. The album begins with a short yet beautiful introductory alap followed by intoxicating solos and lovely harmonic changes rendering a warm and uplifting feeling. The next track in plaintive alap set over a rich bed of mystifying drone elements, shimmering percussions and powerful world beats - listening to it is simply akin to being carried along by a mystical ‘passing caravan’. The next two scores spectacularly go out to showcase Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt at his best. With Glen Charles Halls playing a supportive contemporary role that offers solo of colour and space, it provides Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt with enough room for stunning improvisations. The last two tracks are perhaps the most beautiful performances as they include the fresh sounds of sitar, tanpura, tabla and tibetan temple bells setting a perfect background for the jugalbandi of ‘Vishwa & Glen’, clearly showcasing the east meeting the west.
