Durga Lal

Durga Lal was himself as great a dancer as a percussionist. Hailed as the ‘Adonis of Kathak’ and the ‘Rex of Rhythms’, Durga Lal’s signature was razor sharp pirouettes, effortless and extended play with rhythmic work and the range of ‘ladis’and ‘lamjhad parans’ that he could present within the blinking of the eye. Dancer, percussionist and singer, he blazed a meteoric trail, leaving everyone spellbound. Sudden death, immediately after a performance, put an untimely end to his sparkling career.
